How it works
- Decode in your browser (EXIF rotation applied; GPS and camera metadata dropped).
- Resize with a Lanczos filter if you set a max width or height.
- Encode with MozJPEG, libwebp, libavif or smart PNG colour reduction + OxiPNG, compiled to WebAssembly.
- Keep the smaller file: if a result would be bigger than the original, the original is kept.

FAQ
Are my images uploaded?
No. Every image is decoded, resized and re-encoded inside your browser tab with WebAssembly codecs. Nothing is sent to a server, so it is safe for client work, ID scans and unreleased products.
How much smaller will my images get?
It depends on the picture. Camera JPEGs often shrink a lot when re-encoded with MozJPEG or converted to WebP/AVIF; screenshots and graphics shrink most with the PNG colour reduction. Each row shows the exact before and after size, and the original is kept whenever the new file would be bigger.
Which format should I pick?
WebP works everywhere on the modern web and is a safe default for websites. AVIF is usually smallest but slower to encode. JPEG is best for email and older software. PNG keeps sharp edges and transparency for logos, icons and screenshots.
What does "target size" do?
Pro finds the highest quality that fits under the size you set (say 200 KB for a form upload), and steps the resolution down only if quality alone can't get there.
Why not TinyPNG?
TinyPNG is excellent and its Web Pro costs $39 a year. Shrinkmoor costs $36 a year, never uploads your files, adds AVIF and target-size output, and you can use 30 images a day free with no account.
Is metadata removed?
Yes. Location, camera and other EXIF data are not copied into the new file. Photos are rotated the right way up first.
How do I cancel?
